How Can Brands Calculate a Garment Defect Rate Correctly?
Calculate the defective-unit rate by dividing the number of inspected units containing at least one defect by the total units inspected, then multiplying by 100.
For illustration, five defective garments among 200 inspected units produce a 2.5% defective-unit rate. Counting every individual defect instead gives a different metric because one garment may contain several defects. State the inspection scope and denominator, and do not treat the observed sample rate as the exact rate of the entire shipment.
